Alvin Van Black

  • Alvin Van Black was a native Houstonian.
  • Served in the US Coast Guard.
  • Hosted an open forum talk show for 20 years on KTRH and KPRC radio.  Alvin kept a written record of each call, subject, each hour and day.
  • Wrote a three-minute reflection, or feature, for each weekday morning for 20 years on radio.  An intricate record keeper, Alvin saved copies of each feature.
  • His television work included KTRK-TV Channel 13, with the “Alvin at Night” segment covering fund raising and special evening events for 10 years.
  • Attended University of Houston and received Bachelors Degrees in English, Communications and Geography; and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Houston Baptist University.
  • Married for 23 years to Barbara. Daughters Phyllis and Margo, sons Zachary and Griffin.
