  • Recipients of numerous broadcasting awards and commendations
  • Owners of Malkan Broadcasting
  • Owned radio stations in Texas, Virginia, Ohio, Alabama and Tennessee
  • Owned and operated Texas State Network
  • Both distinguished attorneys
  • Arnold passed away several years ago and is survived by Audrey and two children

Mark DavisTalk Show

  • A Texas native and graduate of the University of Maryland
  • News reporter and talk show host in Jacksonville, Memphis, Tampa and Washington, DC
  • Awarded various Associated Press awards in reporting and news casting
  • Three time recipient of "Achievement in Radio" award for talk show excellence
  • Beginning in 1994, host of "The Mark Davis Show" on WBAP Dallas/Fort Worth
  • "The Mark Davis Weekend Show" on ABC Radio was broadcast on over 125 stations

Dan Lovett - News

  • Born in South Dakota in 1959 and began radio career in Jefferson City, Mo.
  • Became a KILT newsman in 1962
  • Vietnam correspondent for all McLendon stations in 1966
  • Moved to Channel 13 in Houston in 1967 as Sports Anchor
  • Became WABC TV, New York’s Sports Anchor in 1974
  • Retired and now living in Houston’s River Oaks

  • Known as "The Boogie Man," he’s had a 33 year career as a top DJ
  • Resume includes KCBQ, KHJ, KLIF and stations in San Antonio and Austin
  • While at KILT, won DJ of the Year at the ‘74 Gavin Program Conference"
  • Has a daughter and two granddaughters living in Austin

Stan Webb - Sales

  • Native Texan - born in Cisco
  • Began as a DJ at WGLB in Fort Washington, Wisconsin in 1966
  • Began in sales with McLendon at KLIF in 1967
  • Also worked in sales at W-4, KONO, KABL, and KITY
  • Became Sales Manager of WOAI in 1975
  • Currently Senior Vice President of Operations for Clear Channel

Chuck Dunaway - Programming

  • 45 year radio veteran with three daughters, six grandchildren and one great-grandson
  • Programmed KAYC, KHFI, KLBJ, KBOX, KAFM in Texas plus WIXY in Cleveland
  • One of the Original Seven at 77 WABC in New York
  • Built the number five cluster of radio stations based on shares in 1994
  • Retired to Houston in 1995 with wife Kendall
  • Inducted into Ohio Radio/Television Hall of Fame in October 2003

Rusty ReynoldsOwnership

  • Born in East Texas and began broadcasting career in high school
  • Attended Texas A&M in the late 50’s, didn’t graduate then but did in 1996
  • On air at KDOK, WAKY, KEEL and KXOL (where he entered sales)
  • With Dick Osburn, bought KYKX, KEAN, KYKS, WSLY, KIXS, KAGG (The Aggie)
  • With son, Ken, he now owns KBLZ and KIXK in Tyler/Longview
  • A die-hard Texas Aggie supporter, he currently lives in College Station

Bill Weaver - Management

  • Born in Hutchinson, KS and graduated from the University of Texas
  • Received the Bronze Star for heroism during combat in World War II
  • Helped establish the management style that became the McClendon trademark in the 50’s
  • Managed KLIF, WRIT, KTSA and KILT for McClendon
  • Was the driving force behind KILT, bringing The Beatles to Houston in 1964
  • Retired with wife Beverly in Cibolo, outside of San Antonio

Joe Ford Air Personality-DJ

  • Born in Texarkana, Texas
  • Began radio career at KATR-AM in Corpus Christi, Texas
  • Top-rated AM and PM drive talent at KNUZ-Houston
  • Worked in sales at KILT-Houston from 1976-1980
  • Later worked at KIKK, KRBE, KFMK and KLDE
  • Currently doing voice-work for clients all over the country

Dale Milford - Weather

  • Born in Bug Tussle, Texas
  • Captain in the US Army from 1944-1953
  • Weatherman for WFAA in the 60’s
  • United States Congressman from 1973-1979
  • At the end of his broadcasting career, was in TV and radio in the Sherman/Denison area
  • Passed away December 26, 1997 in Howe, Texas

Jim Carola - News

  • Degree in Communications from University of Houston
  • News Director for KILT, recently completing 39 years with the station
  • Honored with numerous awards over the years for news and sports reporting
  • The Astrodome voice of the Oilers for 28 years and now for the Houston Texans
  • Does freelance voice work for radio and television and acts in industrial films
  • Resides on a ranch west of Houston where he raises and trains cutting horses

Bob Presley - Sales

  • Enjoyed successful radio career doing on-air work prior to entering sales
  • Was DJ in San Antonio before joining KILT mid-days during the early 60’s
  • Left KILT for a music change to join KPRC where he played Big Band tunes
  • Rejoined KILT in the late 60’s in Sales
  • Became KILT AM/FM Sales Manager following Harry Rogers’ retirement.
  • Retired in the late 90’s and lives in Houston

Jim Phillips - Ownership

  • Born in Dallas and a 1958 graduate of Texas Christian University
  • In the 60’s, Sales Manager of KFJZ Fort Worth
  • Chairman of the Community Board of Directors of Wells Fargo Bank
  • Chairman of the Governing Board of Directors Sierra-Providence Health Care
  • Ownership positions in KRIO, KHEY, KRMD, KNSS, WMMS, KDUV, KITE radio
  • Has one son and lives in El Paso with wife, Nina

Dan Woodard - Engineering

  • Native of Houston, attended the University of Houston
  • Secured first class license in 1968
  • First engineering jobs were with KFMK and KTRH
  • Moved KRBE transmitter as original tenant atop the Shell building
  • Moved KILT transmitter to Senior Road where most FM’s transmitters are now located
  • Longest tenured employee of KILT with 40 years and counting

Jim LoweAir Personality-DJ

  • In 1953, began hosting the popular Kat’s Karavan on WRR in Dallas
  • Was the voice of "Big Tex" at the Texas State Fair for 39 years
  • The most requested archival episodes requested at WRR are of Jim Lowe
  • Had one of the first all-request D.J. programs in Texas
  • Credited in success of blues musicians including Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker
  • Passed away in May of 2000

Neil SperryTalk Show

  • Attended Texas A&M and holds two degrees in Agriculture from Ohio State University
  • His show on WFAA moved to KRLD in 1980 and over 60 stations on TSN.
  • Named Agricultural Communicator of The Year and Man of the Year in Texas Agriculture
  • Winner of 5 different category awards from Garden Writers Association of America
  • Neil Sperry’s "Complete Guide to Texas Gardening" has over 600,000 copies in print.
  • Among his many honors... Citizen of the Year for McKinney, Texas in January 2003

  • Born in Galveston, earned law degree from UT and began radio at KNOW
  • PD for McLendon’s Buffalo, NY station. In 1970, became Manager of KRLD, Dallas
  • General Manager of WOAI; Founded Barger Broadcast Brokerage in 1988
  • TAB President in 1987, named "Pioneer Broadcaster of the Year" in 1997
  • Member National Assoc of Broadcasters Board and the State Bar of Texas.
  • Established April Communications with the purchase of KRIO-FM and KONO-AM/FM

Dan Rather - News

  • Native of Wharton, Graduate of Sam Houston State, began career at KSAM Huntsville
  • Reporter, then News Director for KTRH and KHOU-TV in Houston
  • Reports from Hurricane Carla brought him national recognition and a move to CBS.
  • Replaced Walter Cronkite as anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News in ‘81.
  • Author of several books, won numerous Emmy awards and the Peabody Award
  • The Dan Rather Communications Building dedicated at Sam Houston State in 1994

Hudson & Harrigan - Air Personality-DJ

  • First morning show to consistently win ratings for KILT
  • Original H&H was Paul Menard (Harrigan) and Mac Hudson 1967-1973
  • Short term hosts included Beau Weaver, Tommy Kramer and stand up comic Jack Mayberry
  • Jim Pruett and Mark Stevens assumed the show’s characters in 1974
  • For two decades, Fred Kennedy and Randy Hames have been H&H
  • After 35 years, one of the country’s longest running top-rated morning shows

McHenry T. "Mac" Tichenor, Jr.Ownership

  • Born in Bethesda, Maryland, entered the family Radio/TV business in 7th Grade.
  • MBA graduate from UT, received Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence.
  • As President of Tichenor Media, moved company to 100% Hispanic Broadcasting.
  • In 97, merged with Heftel to create "Hispanic Broadcasting Corp"...named CEO.
  • In 2002, HBC merged with Univision and appointed President of Univision Radio.
  • TAB "Broadcaster of the Year", ARB Advisory Council and a Director of RAB

Jerry Bobo - Management

  • Born in San Antonio, a 30 year veteran of Texas broadcasting
  • Began as account executive at KVIL-FM Dallas in 1969
  • Became Vice President and General Sales Manager of KVIL in 1973
  • In 1987, became Executive VP and General Manager at KVIL
  • In 1995, named VP and GM of KRLD and President of Texas State Networks
  • Active in Texas Assn of Broadcasters and served several terms on the TAB board

Don Keyes - Programming

  • Highest rated DJ in history of Dallas radio at KLIF
  • National Program Director for all McLendon stations
  • Designer of world’s first all-news station at XTRA Tijuana
  • Consultant to numerous radio stations
  • President of Keyes Corp. and Radio Florida, Inc.
  • Song writer, syndicated radio show host, narrator and voice talent

Gene Elston - Sports

  • Radar Instructor in the Navy, began radio career in 1941 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Sports broadcaster for MLB for 13 years on Mutual and CBS radio networks
  • In 1961, moved to Houston to voice Colt 45s baseball...then the Astros
  • Multiple winner of "Texas Sportscaster of the Year".
  • Texas Baseball Hall of Fame inductee in 1992
  • Authored two books and a unique scorebook for baseball

Russ Knight (The Weird Beard) - Air Personality-DJ

  • Named "The Weird Beard" by Bill Drake in Atlanta
  • While at KLIF, enjoyed a 62% share of Hooper rated audience
  • This large share of audience led to being featured on the Cruisin’ 1962 and 1963 album
  • One of the original 90 members of the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame
  • Programmed WNEW in New York 1979-1984 with classic show tunes
  • Before retiring, co-hosted a syndicated radio program with Perry Como for eight years

L. Lowry Mays - Ownership

  • Chairman and CEO of Clear Channel Communications
  • 1957 graduate of Texas A&M and holds MBA from Harvard
  • Formed Clear Channel Communications in 1972
  • Clear Channel considered global leader in out of home advertising industry
  • Has radio, television, outdoor advertising and live entertainment venues in 63 countries
  • Currently serves on Board of Regents at A&M where School of Business bares his name.

Joe Long - News

  • News Director of KLIF and KBOX, Dallas
  • Credited with originating the Top 40 style of news delivery in the 50’s and 60’s
  • Voice heard around the US as voice image talent for PAMS in the 50’s and 60’s
  • Delivered first bulletin of Kennedy assassination on KLIF
  • Stayed on the air for two days without sleep, reporting on the Kennedy assassination
  • Passed away several years ago while on assignment in the KBOX news cruiser

Ray Menefee - Sales

  • Fort Worth native, graduated from TCU in 1949
  • World War II B-24 pilot, F86 jet pilot in Korean War
  • Worked in sales for the Fort Worth Star Telegram
  • In 1964 became VP of sales for KFJZ/KWXI and the Texas State Network
  • After successful career in broadcasting, began Mark Frederick Company ’77-‘83
  • Retired, living among the pecan trees in Granbury with his wife of 60 years

Sonny Melendrez - Programming

  • One of San Antonio’s all-time best known Disc Jockey and Program Director
  • Twice Billboard "Air Personality of the Year", Member Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
  • Character voice for Hanna-Barbera, became the bug who yelled "ITS RAAAID!"
  • National voice for Parkay Margarine and "Fred the Cockatoo" on Baretta.
  • Won Grammy nomination for the children’s version of "We are the World"
  • San Antonio built a community center in his name to honor his community work

Wolfman JackAir Personality-DJ

  • Born Robert W. Smith in Brooklyn, NY, started in radio in New Jersey
  • Created "Wolfman" character while in Shreveport...Moved to Del Rio, Texas.
  • Drove Cadillac across border daily to Ciudad Acuña’s XERF (250KW)
  • Reinvented Nightime Radio with no consultants, no ratings, no focus groups.
  • In movies American Graffiti (1973), Motel Hell (1980) and Mortuary Academy (1991)
  • Hosted The Midnight Special for eight years on television
