C.C. McCartney
The long and winding radio road
that CC McCartney has traveled began in Beeville in 1966. From
there, he moved to Victoria to work nights at KVIC.
But, CC started to see the world! The next stop was Houma, Louisiana
and KJIN. Then, moving on up, he worked in his hometown of Corpus
Christi at KEYS.
From KEYS, CC moved on up to the legendary WKY in Oklahoma City and
then, The BIG Time! KILT Houston
doing
the 10pm till 2 a.m. show.
Other stops for CC have been at Denver’s KIMN and KRBE and KKBQ in
Houston, as well as stations in Beaumont and Tulsa.
CC says he had great fun in Corpus Christi working with two fellow
Texas Radio Hall of Famers, Barry Kaye and Chuck Dunaway. Next,
there was a two year night gig at KHFI, Austin. Then WBGK, Milwaukee
for a year that was way too cold!
Texas Radio Hall of Famer Steve Hicks and Reed Reiker asked CC to go
to Nashville to do afternoon drive at WSIX-FM, where CC did
afternoons for three years, before going national with his
syndicated show “ Climbing Country” which aired on more than 300
radio stations in the USA and Canada for 104 episodes.
WSIX called again to ask CC to do mid-days, and he did for another 5
years, where he was nominated three years in a row for the Country
Music Association’s disk jockey of the year.
CC worked next at WKDF Nashville for two years and then decided to
devote his full time to voice imaging, which he has done for the
past five years, as the owner of CC McCartney Voice Imaging in
Nashville.
