Mike Selden
2006

Mike Selden was born in 1945 and left us in the spring of 1997. His radio career is deeply rooted in East Texas and he is still remembered by listeners of KNET in Palestine.

During his radio career, Mike worked at legendary North Texas radio stations, KLIF 1190, KNUS 99, KCWM FM, KXOL 1360, KPLX 99.5, KIXK 106 and KVIL 103.7 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and KBEC in Waxahacie.

At KLIF 1190 in 1969, the line-up was Ken and Granny in the morning, Dave Ambrose and Michael O'Shea middays and Mike Selden in afternoon drive. Nightimes and overnights featured Paxton Mills, Jim Taber and Cuzzin Lennie.

Mike arrived at KVIL from KLIF 1190 in 1973 and brought many listeners with him. Afternoon drive at KVIL103.7 was handled by what Texas Radio Hall of Famer Ron Chapman used to describe as a "boogie artist" -- Mike Selden. He "cooked!"

One of the most successful promotions during Mike's time at KVIL was "The Great Race" in 1974. It pitted Mike Selden and Ron Chapman in a race around the world, each going in opposite directions. Listeners had to predict who would return first and when. Mike won.

Mike Selden was one of the most talked about and imitated radio personalities in Texas. He's greatly missed by his family and those radio pros who worked with him -- and against him.
