Tom Joyner

Tom Joyner was born in Tuskegee, Alabama and graduated from Tuskegee University.  He began his radio career as a newsman at WRMA in Montgomery, Alabama.  From there Tom went to Memphis and WLOK, then to KWK in St. Louis and KKDA in Dallas-Fort Worth.  In Chicago Tom worked at WVON, WBMX and WVON, then went on the air at WGCI.
 
In 1985, news headlines read, "The Hardest Working Man in Radio" when Tom began his mornings at KKDA FM 104 in Dallas-Fort Worth, then commuted by jet to do afternoons at WGCI in Chicago.  He became known as "The Fly Jock."
 
Today, his syndicated daily 4-hour show fills the airwaves of cities across the country with a combination of music, talk, sports, gossip and comedy bits with a family cast of companions and a daily conversation with celebrity guests who include Wesley Snipes, Bill Clinton, Spike Lee, , Babyface, Seal and Oprah Winfrey.
 
Tom Joyner was the first African-American to be elected to the Radio Hall of Fame in Chicago. His Tom Joyner Foundation helps students continue their education at Black colleges.  Impact Magazine named him "Best DJ of the Year" so many times that they finally renamed it "The Tom Joyner Award."
